Omeprazole
Risek 20 mg belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Risek works by decreasing the amount of acid in stomach makes, to give relief from the symptoms and allow healing to take place. Your food will still be digested in the normal way. Risek is only available with a doctor’s prescription. Omeprazole works by blocking gastric acid production and is from the group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. Omeprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in conditions such as non-cancerous stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease active duodenal ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and erosive esophagitis. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. This medicine is available both over-the-counter (OTC) and with your doctor’s prescription.

- 20 mg PO once daily for 4–8 weeks
- For Helicobacter Pylori infection
- There are various regimens possible for PPIs combined with antibiotics, for example;
- Triple therapy: 20 mg PO every 12 hr for 10 days
- Amoxicillin 1000 mg PO every 12 hr, and
Gastroesophageal Reflux
Omeprazole delayed-release capsules and omeprazole magnesium delayed-release oral suspension are used in adults and children 1 year of age and older. And omeprazole immediate-release capsules and immediate-release oral suspension are used in adults for the short-term treatment and symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) (e.g., erosive esophagitis, heartburn). And as maintenance therapy following healing of erosive esophagitis to prevent its recurrence.
Overdose of Risek

Confusion
Dizziness
Drowsiness
Nausea
Vomiting
Tachycardia (increased heart rate)
Headaches
Dry mouth
Diaphoresis (sweating)
What side effects may I notice from receiving Risek 20 mg cap?
Side effects of Risek 20 mg that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
- These common side effects of omeprazole happen in more than 1 in 100 people. There are things you can do to help cope with them. Make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids, but it’s best to not drink alcohol. Headaches usually go away after the first week.
- Severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody
- New or unusual pain in your wrist, thigh, hip, or back
- Seizure (convulsions)
- Kidney problems: Fever, rash, nausea, loss of appetite, joint pain, urinating less than usual, blood in your urine, weight gain
- Low magnesium: Dizziness, irregular heartbeats, feeling jittery, muscle cramps, muscle spasms, cough or choking feeling; or
- New or worsening symptoms of lupus: Joint pain, and a skin rash on your cheeks or arms that worsens in sunlight.
Common side effects of omeprazole may include:
- Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat (especially in children)
- Fever (especially in children)
- Stomach pain, gas
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
What happens if I miss a dose?
Risek 20 mg Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time. If you miss a dose of omeprazole, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Take the next dose at your regular time. Don’t take more than one dose of omeprazole at once to make up for the missed one. Doing so can raise your risk for side effects.
